5th Grade Chameleons

4x11? Watercolors
Something Helpful: To give students the most possible time to work during class I start lessons like this with chalkboard instructions that I put up before they walk in. Immediately when they walk in they know they're supposed to look at the board. This allows the faster students to take full advantage of their time by starting right away. I fill the chalkboard with a step by step drawing and instructions.

In this case, I let them customize their chameleon however they liked after it was drawn. The kids really liked this lesson. I used it to teach color mixing and watercolor resist and have them practice spirals and following instructions. It also gives them practice controlling the medium.
